The EUR document is being developed by the following organisations that represent the major European companies involved in electricity generation from nuclear power in Europe. Hereafter you can find a brief description of the company business in nuclear generation. You may also visit their own web sites by clicking on their logos:

CEZ Group ranks among the ten largest energy conglomerates and is the strongest business entity on the domestic electricity market. In the Czech Republic, CEZ Group is the largest electricity and heat producer, and a distribution system operator in most regions. Most production capacities are centralized in the controlling company CEZ, a.s. which was establiched in 1992. CEZ Group produces nearly three-quarters of the total electric energy manufactured in the Czech Republic. CEZ Group currently operates diversified electricity generating fleet of nuclear power plants, coal-fired power plants, hydropower plants, pumped storage plants, wind power plants, photovoltaic  power plants and biogas stations with a total installed capacity of 13 168,1 MW in the Czech Republic. This diverse portfolio of plants enables the group to respond flexibly to changing demand and provide all the services necessary for generating a reliable supply.

 

The EDF Group is an integrated energy company made up of a network of different companies. It serves more than 46 millions customers worldwide. Since its foundation in 1946, Electricité de France (EDF) has been the main player in the French electricity market and for the last ten years it has become a major investor and operator in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. The EDF Group manages a diversified fleet of electricity generating facilities: hydro, thermal, nuclear, solar and geothermal, with a total installed capacity of 121 GW in which nuclear generation represents approximately 65.4GW (63GW in 58 PWR units in France).

 

EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and its largest producer of low-carbon electricity. A wholly-owned subsidiary of the EDF Group, one of Europe's largest energy groups, we generate around one fifth of the UK's electricity and employ around 15,000 people. We supply electricity and gas to around 5.5 million residential and business customers, making us the biggest supplier of electricity by volume. Its Nuclear Generation operates eight nuclear power stations in the UK with a combined capacity of over 9 million kilowatts – electricity that is vital to the UK economy.

 

National Nuclear Energy Generating Company ENERGOATOM was established in 1996, and currently integrates four Ukrainian nuclear power plants. NNEGC ENERGOATOM is subordinate to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine. The country ranks eighth in the world and fifth in Europe in terms of the number of nuclear reactors operated, total capacity and electricity produced. Overall the industry employs more than 38,000 people. In 2012 the share of electricity generated by the NPPs was 45,6%. Currently there are 15 operating power units, including 13 units with VVER-1000 (PWR) reactors, and 2 units of the newer subtype of the VVER-440 (PWR) reactor.
Energoatom is engaged in construction of new power units and rehabilitation of those in operation, purchases of nuclear fuel and removal of radioactive waste, establishing a national infrastructure for spent fuel and radioactive waste management, maintenance of safety at nuclear facilities, retraining and qualification upgrades, and resolution of social problems of the employees.

 

Fortum's activities cover the generation, distribution and sale of electricity and heat, the production, refining and marketing of oil, the operation and maintenance of power plants as well as energy-related services. Fortum is the second largest power company and the leading heat producer in the Nordic countries. In Nordic countries Fortum controls a total power supply capacity of 11.1 GW of which 5.0 is in Finland and 6.1 in Sweden. Fortum owns nuclear capacity in Finland and Sweden. The total nuclear capacity controlled by Fortum is approximately 3.1 GW.

GEN energija is the driver of development in the areas of electric power generation and comprehensive supply of electricity generated from clean, sustainable and renewable sources in Slovenia. The mission of the GEN energija is to ensure a sustainable and safe production and a steady supply of electricity with a clear focus on the consumer. This is achieved by investing in clean, sustainable and renewable energy sources needed to meet Slovenia’s demand for electricity. The strongest focus is the preservation and expansion of nuclear capacities as the basis for sustainable development, in order to increase competitiveness, help keep the environment clean and reduce the country’s reliance on imported energy. GEN energija is a 50 % owner of Krško Nuclear Power Plant.
 

With more than 100 years of experience, Iberdrola is one of the leading electric utilities worldwide. Its services reach 16 million customers, including more than nine million in Spain. Iberdrola is present in generation, transmission, distribution and marketing both in electricity and natural gas. It operates power stations with a total capacity of 17.2 GW: hydro, thermal (coal, oil and natural gas), nuclear and combined cycles. In Spain, Iberdrola controls approximately3.2 GW of nuclear power distributed amongst 7 LWR units (PWRs and BWRs).

 

Paks II Nuclear Power Plant Private Company Limited by Shares

Paks II Ltd. was founded in 2012 for establishing two AES-2006 type new nuclear power plant units targeting the achievement of the domestic energy policy the major goal of which is to provide a carbon free long term electricity production in Hungary. The major pillars of this policy are to maintain the substantial share of nuclear power after expiration of the lifetime of existing four VVER-440 units and to develop the share of solar power in the energy mix. After the acquisition of the environmental and the site licenses the company's major focus is to obtain the implementation license and to start the construction work in the near future. The company is responsible, furthermore, for carrying out network connection assessments, assessing the participation of the region and the national economy in the project, as well as performing various information provision tasks. The important mission of Paks II Ltd. is to develop and modernize further the nuclear infrastructure on the area and the country level as well as to provide wide range of research and innovation activities and to provide knowledge transfer from senior experts to young generation, thus providing the sound background for long term operation of NPPS in Hungary.
 

The Nuclear Research & consultancy Group (NRG) provides expertise and services in support of the safe, ecologically sound and efficient use of nuclear installations and develops and applies spin-off technology for the non-nuclear markets. NRG is the main producer of radionuclides for the medical sectors in Europe. In addition they participate in technology development programs for advanced nuclear power reactor designs. The NRG offices and nuclear facilities are located in the Netherlands.

 

Tractebel Engineering is a business unit of GDF Suez Energy Services, GDF Suez is a global energy and services group offering integrated solutions to a wide range of customers. These include : supplying electricity and gas; developing and operating energy facilities; energy trading; supplying a range of energy services and services to industry; and carrying out design, construction, management and maintenance of installations, on behalf of its industrial and service-sector customers. 
The Group's installed generating capacity actually totals over 50 GW. The capacity controlled in Europe is approximately 25 GW, of which 6.4 comes from nuclear generation ( 7 PWR units in Belgium plus participations in neighbour countries).

 

Teollisuuden Voima Oy (TVO) is an electricity generation company, owned by Finnish industry and power companies, that supplies electricity to its shareholders at cost. The company owns and operates two BWR units on the west coast of Finland at Olkiluoto. Both units currently operate at 880 MW net output, and together they amount to nearly 20% of all electricity produced in Finland. In December 2003, TVO signed a contract with the Framatome ANP - Siemens consortium for the construction of a new PWR unit of 1600 MW at Olkiluoto.
